January 27, 2015
On November 13th, 2014 in San Francisco, California, Igor joined the elite ranks of sustainability startups by being recognized as a finalist in the world’s largest Cleantech competition at the Cleantech Open Global Forum Competition. Igor represented the Midwest North region as one of four finalists in the Green Building Startups category and was the only lighting sustainability software company to be a finalist for this sustainability award.
The Cleantech Open is a not-for-profit organization that runs the world’s largest and most competitive Cleantech accelerator with the mission to find, fund, and foster entrepreneurs with big ideas that address today’s most urgent energy, environmental, and economic challenges. Their Cleantech Open Global Forum Competition is a featured event of the globally celebrated Entrepreneurship Week and frequently referred to as the “Academy Awards” of sustainability.
The awards recognize entrepreneurs addressing the “planet’s most pressing energy, environmental, and economic challenges” in eight categories: Energy Efficiency, Energy Generation, Chemicals & Advanced Materials, Agriculture-Water-Waste, Transportation, Green Buildings, Information & Communication Technologies, and Energy Distribution & Storage. Now in its 9th year, the Cleantech Open Global Forum attracted over 555 qualified applications and selected only 159 startups to compete in the Cleantech Open program.
Of the attending startups, 150 came from the United States, and the remaining nine came from six new international startup accelerators launched in partnership with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Simply being selected for the Global Forum was an honor in it of itself, and to be recognized as a finalist is a testament to the excitement around and feasibility of Igor’s innovative PoE lighting control technology.
The Cleantech Open Global Forum Competition has a track record of connecting sustainability-focused startups with investors, having helped over 865 companies in the United States raise more than $950 million as of the end of 2014. Igor is proud to join the ranks of the elite few selected as finalists each year and looks forward to continuing on its mission to bring innovative lighting solutions to energy users everywhere.
